And he basically turns out to be quite a decent bloke. And I think everybody, in a sense, is a victim of circumstances, whether they’re in privilege or not, and it forms your worldview. I just think he’s not had to deal with so much. I’m curious about how that looks from the inside versus the outside, and how you create a character with flaws but also one that will ultimately be a romantic figure your readers can invest in.Ī: Well, I’m not sure I would go as far as to say that he’s narcissistic.
I do understand the attraction to an alpha-male “bad guy,” but when you’re inside the head of someone who’s kind of a narcissistic spoiled brat, he might seem less attractive. The figure of the romantic rapscallion, the rake, is common in literature.
